Error 2147163964 & GetLastError:5 During Install
This seems a big topic, so I’ll try to clarify the procedure (19 Feb 2015)
If you are getting the above error during the install of Sony Vegas ( I got it when trying to update VP11 to 701)
1)
Go to folder the following folder, (username is usually your name or the name of the PC)
C:\Users\ \AppData\ Roaming\Sony (or)
C:\Users\ \AppData\Sony
You could try a windows search if thats easier ( (Windows key + F )
Type this into windows search “SCS_INSTALLER*.log” to see if you can find it that way, don’t forget the asterix *.
If you cannot find this folder it may be hidden
You need to go to Folder and search options, view tab and check
“Show hidden files, folders and drives” like in this picture ( Thanks to heartmiso)
look at the log file name,which looks something like this “SCS_INSTALLER_14.log” perhaps with a different number at the end.

Open file with Notepad, right click on filename then choose OPEN
Note: the file could be any number after the SCS_INSTALLER_XX.log
4)
To find the ERROR, use CTRL+F in Notepad and enter “error code” and then do, or go to Edit and choose Find… and then do Find Next
The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Sony\Vegas Pro 11.0\Vegas Pro 11.0 (64-bit).lnk.
6)
To get the privileges the software requires, Navigate to the folder that is mentioned in Notepad.
Eg. C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Sony\Vegas Pro 11.0,
If you see a padlock on the folder icon as per image below, then remove it.
If you do not know how to do that then use this website to find out how

Download Virtual C++ redistributable 2012 and run as Admin
Then Re install Vegas and run as Admin

i only copy all files in folder sony that i installed on another computer to my computer with windows 10 system operation
next step double click VEGAS 130.exe then insert serial number and authentication code
from the keygen
all these wannabe smart but bullshit answers lol.
depending of your OS you need to manually install Virtual C++ redistributable 2008 and 2012,
it’s not you it’s registry development failure on both ends.
When i try to install vegas pro… It shows that ‘it is already installed…. Uninstall the previous one first’…

I also got an “succesfully installed” message, though no files were copied at all.
My log showed an Error Code: INSTALLATION SUCCESS in my SCS_INSTALLER_1.log
I tried all of the tips within this file and nothing worked.
Though, when I tried to install the “Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redist”, i got an error message from the installer that “there is an installation process already running”.
So i rebooted my PC and Windows update started installing updates (nothing serious like ServicePack or shit).
After that Vegas installed without problems.
i cant find sony file i will send everything bellow the first error code => Error Code
Error Code: INSTALLATION SUCCESS
Error Code: FINISH TXT Vegas Pro 13.0 has been successfully installed.

Hey, i did all of that, installed visual c++, and I’ve tried everything and i still have that error. I went to cmd(run as administrator) did “net user administrator /active yes” and i login as administrator. I still get that error. I would appreciate if someone could help me fast. Thanks

In the note pad this is the message I get when I find the error

the directory doesn’t have any lockpad to be removed

right click the update file which you downloaded ( somewhere in downloads or you a location you specified) and run as administrator.
I closed the Vegas while doing this just in case

you just right-click c:\ProgramData\Sony and hit “Take ownership” and run setup as admin 😀

Hi i had the same problem but i fixed it ^^ by just installing Microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable ^^ trust me it worked
Rebekah was absolutely correct. I have Windows 8.1 and I was installing Movie Studio Suite (13).
Download Microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable and select repair. (I downloaded both X64 and X86 versions) one of them worked!
Interestingly and very frustratingly, when you come to install one of the items on the second disk, it states that you need Microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (64 bit) and installs it for you!
Clearly technology is not Sony’s strong point!

I’m on windows 10. I installed 2008 and 2013 (64 bit) and restarted my computer and that fixed it. Not sure which did the trick, but thought I’d share. I had the “sfppack1_x64.dll failed to register” error.
please go to C:\Users\xxxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\ after see Sony directory and select right mouse bottom
and find propieties select after
securities and add System and Administrators with full Controll and modify (please be free to add)
add (appears Select Users and Groups ) select advanced select find and search results list and select
Administrator and select Full Contro and Modify later with system same way
Now Your Vegas is ready to finish installation
Well I will explain others directories have same users, adminstrator and system users sony directory has not only local user (very common) because is by default just add these ones and ready

I followed all your instructions but this does not work.
Try doing a windows search on this string,
in the top right of the window of the C:\ drive
“SCS_INSTALLER_*.log” (the * could be any number from 1 upwards)
Im also running windows 8 x64 and trying to install vegas 12 pro.

I have got as far as looking for the location of the file but when I go into C: Programme files x 84 there is no Sony file anywhere.

You need to go to (I am running Windows 7)
C:\ProgramData\ NOT C:\Programmefiles(x 86)
You have probably installed the 64bit version so will not be in C: Programme files x 84 as that is for the 32 bit programmes
No you do not delete it, do as the text says, find that folder and unlock.

Ok I see the confusion, I say…
“look at the log file which looks something like this” SOMETHING LIKE THIS, not the same as yours but something like this, so could be…
SCS_INSTALLER_2.log, SCS_INSTALLER_22.log, SCS_INSTALLER_10.log, SCS_INSTALLER_7.log

NEED REALLY HELP.
AppData is located where advised however it is a hidden file. You will need to find view/options/change folder and search options, go to the View tab then select “Show hidden files, folders or drives”. (This is how i find it in windows 8, should be similar to other operating systems).
Your AppData folder should now appear

Forgot to mention that it used to work, but recently had to reinstall my OS.
In order to solve this problem we need to get back to a «clean state» by uninstalling/removing any currently installed components of our software and starting over.
-The first step will be uninstall the software through Steam.
— In your Steam Library, right-click on the listing for your application and choose «Delete LocalContent».
— The second step will be uninstall the software through Window.
— Go to the Windows Control Panel and choose «Uninstall a program».
— In the «Uninstall a program» list, look for the entries about the application you need to uninstall(there might be more then one).
— Uninstall them by right-clicking on the listing and choosing «Uninstall».
— After uninstalling from both Steam and Control Panel, restart your computer.
Then uninstall option can also be called «Add/Remove Programs», «Programs and Features», or other similar names.
Restarting your computer is a critical step in this process. Do not skip it!
— After restarting your computer, it’s time to try installing again. Return to your Steam Library, select your application, and click «Install».
— After Steam tells you the program is finished downloading, click the «Launch» button.
The most common reason our installer fails is because the computer is waiting to be restarted. Since you restarted your computer in the last section, this will resolve the problem if that was the issue on your system.
If you’re still seeing the error at this point, it’s likely your installation is failing for another reason. Now it’s time to find out why. To do that, you’ll need to apply the following steps:
— Disable all antivirus or other security software.
— Navigate to the installation folder of your application.
In this folder, you should find the installation file of your application.
— Create a new folder called like your application, for example «Vegas Pro 15».
— Run the file installation file you found in the installation folder of your application.
— Proceed through the installation steps until prompted to choose an install location.
— Once you have the correct location chosen, click «Install».
— After installation return to your Steam Library and try to launch your application. It should start correctly.

Thank you for writing back. I found this issue reported in our Development system, and our engineers confirmed that you are receiving that error because one of two things may be occurring:
1. There is a corrupt or otherwise broken registry
2. There is a virus or other permissions limiting software running.
It is recommended that you take your machine into a technician, or a reinstall/recovery of the OS may be a fix as well.
If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident.

Sony’s software is the only software not installing correctly. Requiring me to pay for expensive technical support and/or completely re-installing the OS are not acceptable solutions.
Any updates? Sony has been unhelpful in my case. They insist the problem is with my computer. I say, since the only, ONLY software that will not install on my computer is theirs, maybe the problem is with their software.
At last I have managed to install Vegas Pro 13. 🙂

Thanks very much for reporting success to this thread! This particular problem has consumed a lot of time for our installer team at SCS with not much to show for it. We had suspected C++ redist, but never could prove it because we’ve failed to get a machine into the bad state despite considerable effort.
If anyone else can try ryclark’s solution and report back success or failure here, it would be very helpful to us.

I was running a prior version of Movie Studio Platinum and it wouldn’t start up when I tried to run it yesterday. So I tried installing the latest version 934 64-bit and now I am getting the installation error reported above. I re-installed the two versions of MS 2012 libraries and that didn’t fix the problem. Has Sony got a fix for this? I last used the software 4/6/15 to make a short video and it worked fine. I have an older version 10.0 but I really want to use version 13.0.
I tried re-installing version 879 and that has the same problem when it tries to register the sfvstproxystubx86.dll. The COM error that comes back is 800700C1. When I tried to hand register the DLL, it said it was incompatible with the 64-bit system.
I wish SONY would test their damn installation software before they distribute it.
Does anyone have a solution?
Same problem here. Solved by uninstalling VC++ redistribuable 2013 and installing VC++ resdistribuable 2012, then reinstalling Vegas. I also did the repair install on VC++ 2012 just in case.
I’m legit having this problem right now please help! I was having problems opening windows movie maker so I got this and now it won’t open. I have movie studio 14. I’ve tried repairing and uninstalling and re stalling the c++ drivers.

5. Then, I clicked change for the 2 Windows visual c++ 2012 (x64 and x86) and clicked repair. the (x64) one will tell you to restart. Restart after youve repaired both.
6. Then, I right clicked the installer and «run as administrator» and it installed.
(I know alot of the above users said it, but it took a long time for me to see what I actually had to do, so this is for those who want)

I had the same problem with Vegas Pro 14.0 on Windows 10 Pro 10 (sfvstproxystubx86.dll registration error). Thank you ryclark! I figured it was a Visual C++ thing since I’ve had problems with those after hard drive problems this year. I first only tried repairing the x64 before I saw the post and still had the problem. I then tried repair the x86 as well and I was able to install successfully.
