[BUG] Marlin halts immediately after turning on with Err: MAXTEMP Bed #14139
Comments
lorenzodimauro97 commented May 26, 2019
Ender 3 with SKR V1.3, TMC2208 on XYZE in UART mode, stock CR10 Display
Description
When you turn on the printer with a firmware compiled after commit 48d1bd2 causes the following issue:
Printer starts, Marlin logo comes in. Buzzer starts buzzing intermittently.
Buzzer now starts buzzing constantly, the following message appears on the LCD:
Steps to Reproduce
Expected behavior: Printer turns on
Actual behavior: Printer halts
Additional Information
This happens regardless of configuration.h and / or configuration_adv.h you’re using. The stock ender 3 configuration.h and configuration_adv.h were used, the only mods to it being defining the TMC2208 drivers.
Reverting Temperature.cpp fixes the problem altogether.

I have the same issue after pull latest changes
thisiskeithb commented May 26, 2019
I just ran into the same issue with this board on an Ender-3 after killing a print with the power switch and turning it back on.
Using files from the df77334 commit.

hello with the mks sbase use Marlin bugfix-2.0.x also it bug
Sur machine cr10s carte MakerSbase 32bits and DRV8825
avec
#define TEMP_SENSOR_0 5 // E3DV6
#define TEMP_SENSOR_BED 5 // Sensors Stock Creality3D
elle bip et avec un message sur le lcd
Err: MAXTEMP Bed
au reboot la carte idem la carte bip toujours
mais avec
dans le fichier Configuration.h
et toujours la meme config
// Bypass bug thermistance
//#define BOGUS_TEMPERATURE_FAILSAFE_OVERRIDE
#define TEMP_SENSOR_0 5 // E3DV6
#define TEMP_SENSOR_BED 5 // Sensors Stock Creality3D
La machine boot normal et ne bip pas elle indique les bonne température pour le bed and hotend e3d

Bug Description
Right now it says:
ERR: MAXTEMP: BED
PRINTER HALTED
Please Reset
Every time I boot it up.
Sometimes it says MAXTEMP: E1 depending on how I fiddle with the firmware (I tried multiple things to fix this issue, all of them were stupid solutions and I’m to embarassed to post them here so I will not).
Curious thing though, I’m using E0 Not E1 (Maybe something to look into later).
I’m relatively new to the firmware side of 3D printing so please excuse me if I leave anything out or say anything stupid
My Configurations
Steps to Reproduce
Expected behavior: [Printer runs Marlin normally]
Actual behavior: [The display beeps intermittently and displays «ERR: MAXTEMP: BED, PRINTER HALTED, Please Reset]

«ERR: MAXTEMP: BED, PRINTER HALTED, Please Reset»
Same error appears, if bed thermistor has short circuit.
If you have not tried, unplug bed thermistor and reset again.

The problem is that I’ve unplugged everything and I’m running the board’s power via my PC. Nothing’s plugged in apart from the LCD.

With no thermistors plugged in & the board immediately hitting max temp, something is likely damaged on the board.

That’s weird, everything was working perfectly before I swapped the LCD connectors

Did you ever resolve this? I am having similar issue. #17633
Except it doesn’t occur on older firmware (2.0.1)
EDIT: For anyone in future reading this: I resolved my issue, which was similar. I have no idea what the issue was, all I did was recompile the same firmware version using the same config and this time it didn’t error out. More details are in my post I link above if needed.
mdellen commented May 26, 2020 •
I also get the max temp E1 (SKR 1.4 turbo) after upgrading to the latest bug fix release. Will try to recompile to see if it is persistent. (reverting back to a previous version solves the problem) when I compile the bug fix 2.x with //#define THERMAL_PROTECTION_HOTENDS I still get the max temp error on boot?
update: moved to 2.0.5.3 (non bugfix, problem remains) Only have 1 extruder so was expecting E0. moving back to 2.0.1 and all is fine, will recheck my config files.
mdellen commented May 29, 2020
I need to change something in the config but am not able to compile new firmware without getting the error. Tried BTT 2.0.1 branch, 2.0.1, 2.0.4.4 and 2.0.5.2

anet a6 err maxtemp bed
Please Login to Comment
hello
I just got my printer last night, and now I have finally finished the build, but when I turn the printer on I gives me the error code that says: maxtemp bed I have found out it is because of the thermostat not working properly
I was hoping somebody else has a smart way to fix this
please help a total noob
If you have an ohm meter you should measure 100KOhm resistance at the two pins of thermistor while the printer is off the plug! If it`s ok then the problem is at the mainboard but most possible scenario is that your thermistor is either damaged or not properly soldered. Check it thoroughly.
@Databanks should be easy to troubleshoot motherboard. Might be far easier to fix then deal with gearbest. So unless the CPU broke doubtful except if you shorted the bed voltage to the thermistor path.
With nothing plugged into the BT socket of the motherboard do you still get the same error.
If you get too high error with nothing plugged into the BT socket check test pin T54 with a multimeter it should read 5 volts.
If T54 reads five volts, check T53 at cpu,
If T53 reads 5 Volts, check the pin of the CPU right by the test pin make sure its a good solder joint
if good solder joint then CPU blown. return motherboard
if T53 read zero Volts motherboard has broken VIA. Return motherboard or solder a jumper from T54 to T53.
If T54 reads 0 volts Check resistor R37 the opposite side away from capacitor C43 should read 5 votls
If R37 has 5 volts power down board and check resistance of R37 should read about 4.7k or less
If R37 is good check for solder blobs shorting the socket to ground. pin one of the socket should be shorted to gnd but not pin three (T54)
@kgrach I have a strong feeling you could be right. They’re dragging their feet and now I have to wait another 2 days before they can even say if it’s a return & repair, replace or nothing. First they took forever to send it, then their «tracking» system says it’s still in China 2 weeks after arrival, now it’s failed. Not impressed. Half tempted to just save and order a new motherboard fro BangGood. At least when something fails with them they just send a new one
I’ll have to start your troubleshooting soon now that I can get to the printer again (was moving furniture while it’s out of action). My multimeter’s in the laundry somewhere
Good news! Gearbest is sending a new one. I guess just the tiny bit of trouble shooting was enough to convince their techs. Pity I also ordered a new one from banggood but I guess I can put that aside until I can buy the parts for an AM6
Hi there. There is practically no fixing the issue except for one thing. It could be that the leads of the thermistor are touching each other. This would, of course, give a very low resistance and thus a high temperature reading.

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I have read everything I found on the «Err: MAXTEMP BED» error and I have checked the wiring and everything looks correct and I can see any short anywhere, is there anything else I should do to get rid of this error?
However when I unplugged the thermistor from the board I could get to the message «GET delta pro ready», does this mean that my thermistor is not working?

Mark, your suggestions were very good and correct, I shall explain (for anyone else who may be interested).
I received the disassembled the hotbed and removed the thermistor and found that the thermistor was incorrectly installed in that the wires were shorting out. So using a magnifying glass I verified what that the thermistor legs were actually separated and then taped down with new Kapton tape and then reconnected everything to find that it the temperature was now being displayed and the hotbed actually started to work.
I thank you and also Melody from Geeetech who really stayed with me and provided me with helpful support and information.
Now I just need to work our why my motors erratically send my extrusion heads all over the place and continuously bang into the hotbed.
