Recently moved my entire SteamApps folder from one drive (5TB HDD) to a 4TB SSD (I was running out of space). After the move, I encountered the «Failed to create child process bin/ui32.exe» issue. I managed to fix this issue with the following procedure after the move. The entire duration shouldn’t last more than 20 minutes.
1. Uninstall Wallpaper Engine from Steam completely (by Steam or Windows).
2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del for Task Manager and press Startup Tab. Disable Wallpaper Engine.
3. Browse to previous drive for Steam and delete Wallpaper Engine folder. If unsuccessful, Restart PC and repeat the process. Make sure Wallpaper Engine is Disabled in Task Manager.
4. Restart PC again just to make sure. From then on, the error will not appear as Wallpaper Engine is Disabled.
5. Install Wallpaper normally. During this procedure, you’ll get a notice that Startup for Wallpaper Engine is not Enable and will be fixed automatically. Click «Yes» to enable the fix.
6. After installation, go back to Task Manager, tab to Startup, then Enable the Wallpaper Engine. When in doubt, check if the Wallpaper Engine is indeed located in the new drive. To do so, click Wallpaper Engine in the Startup, right click, then select Properties. It should referenced to the new installation in the new drive.
7. Run Wallpaper Engine and put up a simple pic as desktop image (different images if running more than one monitor) for the moment to test.
8. Verify the fix by restarting the PC again. At this time, Wallpaper Engine should be running without error. Put up your favorite theme and game on.

Everytime i try to launch i get the error: Failed to create child process: bin/ui32.exe (Windows error «The requested operation requires elevation. «, code 740, Dir C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine\bin
The bin file exists and i have no clue how to fix.
Something on the computer set this file to be run as admin only I assume, this isn’t good. Can you just delete this entire folder manually and reinstall C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine the files need to be not set to be admin only.
Steam isn’t installing this correctly, it mustn’t require elevation.
Could this be happening because Steam is running as admin? Where is it installed exactly?
Also, try to use the ‘Repair’ function in the Steam library folder dialog (right click the library and then repair). If you have it installed in the program files directory, it’s possible that something screwed with Steam’s permissions, I believe that repair function is meant to fix this.

As the title says everytime I try to start the program, it throws this errorcode at me.
I’ve read a lot about the error and did the VC uninstall/install thingy. It still keeps doing this nomatter what I try.
When starting the program from Steam I can get the taskbar icon to show up with menu. But nothing happens if I click on any of the options. It does not open the wallpaper program and it does not give me the error code this way. It will just not work.
I am running a Windows 10 64bit system. My videocard is an AMD RX480 with latest drivers installed. I am not running any performance programs.
Did you also install the x86 versions of the redistributables?
The correct ones are in this location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine\_Runtime\vcredist_x86.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\wallpaper_engine\_Runtime\vcredist_x64.exe
There are duplicate ones, so maybe you ran the wrong ones before?

Yes, I did install both of these files from within the wallpaper engine folder in my first try.
I also tried downloading from Microsoft directly but same result. I may try a complete reinstall of Windows at some point but right now it is not possible.
I am quite sure this is Win10 messing this Visual programs thing up.
There is a manual way to figure out which DLL is still missing/corrupted, though it’s sort of complicated and still not 100% guaranteed to help (e.g. you don’t know how to get the missing DLLs): https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Solving_Runtime_Error_Codes_with_Dependency_Walker
If you do want to try it, make sure to use the correct version for x86/x64 respectively and run wallpaper32.exe/wallpaper64.exe with the commandline they show in «Using Dependency Walker».
I’ve been trying the program and run both 32 and 64 bit version.
The 32bit outputs a lot of errors regarding the wow64 folders but the 64bit version seemed to only output this:

But I find that strange since there are other calls to MSVCR120.DLL that seems to be working fine.
I don’t *think* I have these two functions in my 64-bit kernel32.dll either (I only did a quick check, the file is pretty small), so it seems to be an issue with your msvcr120.dlls after all (these are the ones installed by vcredist).
It’s possible that the installers just don’t work and you would have to replace them manually, which may be troublesome.

It is getting tiresome to fix what Microsoft can’t.

So I did a clean reinstall of windows 10 and now everything works fine.
